Angelica is native to northern Europe. It grows to a huge size very quickly, with hollow flowering stems and large leaves.  It needs rich soil and plenty of water, and in hot areas should be planted in afternoon shade. Large yellow-green leaves attract butterflies. Because it is a true biennial, it will die after it blooms the second year. Seeds, leaves and stalks are edible, and it was grown in Europe as a vegetable. Medicinal.
